Early Cleveland Springs Hotel

This was built after the first hotel was destroyed by fire in the 1860s. It was also destroyed by fire in 1907. The hotel was a popular resort known for the local mineral springs whose water was believed to have healing properties. Amenities included a golf course, tennis courts, and a large ballroom. |

1872 Seaboard first engine to arrive in Shelby
|
1872 marked the arrival of the first railroad and this was the first engine. They were wood burners that started Shelby's growth. Farmers were hired to haul wood to platforms along the tracks where crewmen would transfer the wood to the engines tender. |
