About the Cleveland County History Project
Our Mission
The Cleveland County History Project is a free public service dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Cleveland County, North Carolina. Our goal is to gather scattered historical materials from various sources and make them accessible in one organized location for researchers, genealogists, students, and anyone interested in our local heritage.
This archive focuses primarily on Cleveland County's early history, from its formation before 1841 through the early 20th century ( 1930). We digitally preserve photographs, maps, documents, and stories that might otherwise be lost to time.
Why This Project Exists
Historical information about Cleveland County has been scattered across many sources - some public, some private, and much of it difficult to find. This project brings together these hard-to-find resources so that others don't have to spend years searching as we have.
