The Shelby House With The Mock Orange Hedge
The Shelby House with the Mock Orange Hedge The house built in the late 1850s by Augustus W. Burton (using part of the $5,000 in golden eagles he won in the Louisiana lottery) was designed by the architect Guoin I. Crink. The grounds were landscaped by an experienced gardener, and there was a beautiful mock orange hedge around the yard, with much rare shrubbery inside it. By the time the pictured view was made, the house and grounds had deteriorated greatly. Source: Mamie Jones.
