Martin Roberts Served With Washington and Is Buried Near Shelby

Mamie Jones wrote that Martin Roberts, her mother’s great-grandfather, served four years in the Revolutionary Army. For two years he was Forage Master under General George Washington. He was with Washington at Valley Forge and took part in the battles of Trenton and Germantown.

After the war, Roberts came to this county and later died here. Mamie Jones stated that he is buried in the Hardin cemetery, located four miles south of Shelby.
