Magic Lantern Shows in Shelby Before Motion Pictures

In the 1890s, in a room upstairs above the doorway next to the drug store, Audie Rudisill set up a screen and showed magic lantern slides. Later, he also exhibited a kaleidoscope in the same place. Mamie Jones described both of these as forerunners of moving pictures, seen in Shelby years before motion pictures were common.
