Mt. Harmony Methodist

Mt. Harmony Methodist
The earliest Methodist church in Cleveland County is Mount Harmony Methodist Church (CL 434), established in 1791. Located north of Polkville, Mount Harmony was the second Methodist church founded west of the Catawba River.

Shortly after, Elliot Chapel (CL 439), another Methodist congregation, was established. East of Polkville and just outside of Lawndale stands Palm Tree Methodist Church (CL 404), whose congregation formed in 1795.

Another early church that remains active is Knob Creek Methodist (CL 389). Founded in 1800, Knob Creek is located in Belwood. The earliest grave in the adjacent cemetery belongs to Jacob S. Pauley, who died in 1809.
